Enrollment, Retention, and Job Readiness: Addressing Higher Education’s Skills Gap in the Evolving Job Marketplace

Blog Post 22

According to a McKinsey report, 87% of companies worldwide are aware that they either already have a skills gap or will have one within a few years.  This is a crisis for both the higher ed and the corporate world. Employers are having a difficult time recruiting candidates with the skills they need; but what is often not discussed is that employers are also having difficulty identifying what skills or competencies are needed for specific roles. Colleges are increasingly trying to align programs to career needs so it’s important that they have insight into the competencies needed and also have a way to help measure and provide evidence of skill attainment.

Watch the recording of a recent moderated discussion co-hosted by Ease Learning and Aspire Ability where our panelists discussed what higher education can do to address this and what that looks like.  They will also talked about what it means for colleges, corporations and most importantly job candidates when the skills gap is addressed and there is alignment between curriculum and career.

The panel featured:

  • Andrew Jones, CEO, Creating Futures

  • Muneezeh Kabir, Technology Strategy & Transformation, Executive Advisory, Genesys

  • Janet Williams, Faculty Coordinator, NOCE Distance Education

Our panel of experts shared their perspective on these issues and discussed what has worked well and where previous efforts around developing competency profiles and building competency-based programs have fallen short.
